I literally teared up when this slider arrived (tears of joy!). I have wanted one for so long (like years) and here it was in my hands. The box is large, so be warned. It came very well packaged and at first I thought I would keep the packaging for storing it. However, it took me awhile to put it together, and after considering all the uses that I have for it, it seemed pointless to take it apart. So, it’s now a permanent setup for my “studio” (AKA spare room). Let me tell you the PROS and CONS/WISHES.PROS:- The bearing that sits beneath the center platform is superb. This was my main concern before getting the unit. It has definitely been the key to the rig. It is quiet, steady, and smooth. I would say it is pro quality.- The overall build is good quality. The rails appear to me to be aluminum and they lock together with precision. This locking construction is in my opinion imperative to longevity of the unit in keeping it from loosening or bending. The system keeps everything parallel and even.- The center platform is rated to take a 44 pound load. This is quite large considering the size of the center platform.- The camera payload is 4.4 pounds. Given that the camera is relatively close to the subject, I probably wouldn’t even be able to use large lenses so this weight limit is ample.- I can convert from a 360 degree dolly to an overhead mount. Additionally there is an upgrade package that can be added in the future for even more shots from different angles. I can also tilt and set the camera at different angles when traveling around the subject giving more diversity.- This rig gives me so much “new to me” creative freedom. I can preset lights on my subject without worrying about weird shadows during the camera movement. I can place a green screen behind my subject. I can place any background behind my subject without revealing the rest of the studio. I have all kinds of new shots with liquids since they are stabilized in the center without surface rippling. (And, my list goes on and on). I also have a regular turn table, but this rig gives me so much more control over my videos. I feel like this one piece of equipment has advanced my videography to a new level.- Since I used my own ball head, I didn’t need special plates to marry up to a new ball head style. Additionally, the rig could be used for various types of cameras or even phones.CONS/WISHES:I don’t really have any cons, but more like wishes.- I wish the platform and base were metal. I found that I was adding weights to the base on some shots to keep it very stable. It seemed like I was getting very micro vibrations before I weighted it. I feel like having a metal base and platform might reduce micro vibrations. (Although having metal may drive the price up, so I understand why the manufacturer chose the material used).- I didn’t care for the threading on the weight holder that is behind the screen. Maybe it has more to do with the weights I used, but this seemed to lock my weights in to the point that it was slightly difficult to remove them.- For those that must set up and tear down this rig on a regularly basis, it would be nice to have quick connectors rather than the screw in ones. I’m okay with the setup, but I can see this being a hindrance to some users. The slider is large and depending on space constraints, could pose a problem if always set up.I am so pleased with this slider unit. I would totally recommend it to anyone who is passionate about their craft and wants a new piece of equipment to up their game. Five stars.
